Havering is located north of the Thames at the far East of London. Its 224,300 population benefits from living in one of London's greenest boroughs but with excellent tube, rail, road, river and air links to the rest of London and the wider world. The borough is set for some major and exciting changes over the next few years as London shifts eastwards as a result of the massive Thames Gateway regeneration. Havering Council has changed too and is set for further transformation. Pick whatever topic you like, and Havering is improving with better inspection results, improved performance indicators and customer satisfaction on a steadily rising curve. Internally the council has corporate IIP accreditation and management has been restructured to support further improvements and to respond to future trends. Externally, heeding customer priorities identified by extensive consultation, it is providing significant investment and re- prioritising in key services areas such as combating the fear of crime (Havering is the third safest borough in London). Multi-million pound investments are also being made in improving the streetscene, libraries and parks. The education service is one of the best in the country and still getting better. Building upon its successes, Havering is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities facing the borough and is determined to play its full part both regionally and nationally.
