East Sussex CC has, in just 12 months, totally transformed its back-office services, with the introduction of new software in HR, payroll, finance and procurement, and pensions. We believe this is the fastest and most comprehensive implementation of an integrated e-business system yet undertaken by a local authority of this size. Like most such projects, it has been very much a case of invest to save. And six months on from our go-live date, we are already seeing savings of almost ￡500,000 a year on the running costs of the new system and managed services. We believe efficiency benefits are set to release a further ￡700,000 a year, and additional long-term gains will be achieved from procurement improvements.
