My family was among thousands displaced from war-torn Biafra in the late 1960s, when I was aged seven. Since then I have worked in education and finance at Hackney and Lewisham councils, and assistant director of Cambridge Educational Associates, before my current post of assistant chief executive of Islington LBC. My role involves improving the performance of three-star Islington, including collating across-the-board performance of the authority's six 'equality strands.' I've had a positive experience as a black woman working in the public sector and believe equality in the workplace has made a huge leap during the last 20 years.
