It's tough out there, with 1.6m job losses predicted in the UK the job market is shrinking. For many people if they have a public sector job they just feel grateful, for others redundancy has already hit or is looming. Just because we are in an 'age of austerity' does not mean there are no jobs and or that there is no ambition to move on. So how can you maximise your chances of getting that job? 1) Be picky! Work out what you want in a role and which roles you could do. Don't apply for everything that you see. That may seem counterintuitive but, there is a law of diminishing returns, the more you apply for the less of a match you are likely to be and the less likely you are to get an interview... and the more demoralised you will become.
