David Walker was right that CAA died largely friendless ("Why the CAA died friendless', The MJ 2 December). However, I know many officers who, while not sorry to see it go, have expressed regret that their hard work will not receive an independent assessment and scored judgement to mark the improvements they'd made. Certainly, those of us at Southend-on-Sea BC were looking forward to the council being rated as 'excellent" - complementing other accolades received in recent years.
