Councils have managed to shield elderly and disabled people from the 'worst excesses' of the public sector cuts so far, according to a new major social care survey. The review by the Towards Excellence in Adult Social Care group, which includes the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), shows that while some services have been hit by the spending cuts, 63% of users are still satisfied. Group chair and former ADASS president, Peter Hay, said the number of people delayed in hospital because of a lack of social care funding had also decreased significantly.
