Whatever the courts decide in relation to the future of Essex's Dale Farm, there is still a lot to learn from this long-running saga. Let me declare myself. I am opposed to the evictions. Importantly, this is because they represent an assault on people's right to live as they see fit, and is a vivid example of the illiberalism of bureaucratic planning regulations. For a local authority to forcibly evict 86 families from homes they have built on land they legally own is shameful.
