Charity chiefs have warned more than 20,000 third sector workers could lose their jobs as a result of public sector budget cuts. Speaking at a TUC event in London last week, Neil Cleevely, director of policy and communications at the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA), said charities across the country were facing massive financial cuts. Mr Cleevely told delegates they were expecting job losses of more than 20,000 in the third sector. 'We welcome the Government's recognition of volunteers' contribution to our society,' he said. 'But to get the best out of volunteers, we need strong organisations with paid staff.
