Shift to online transactions 'could save £1.2bn'

Ministers hope to achieve £1.2bn efficiency savings within three years by moving more 'everyday' transactions online, the latest Government IT strategy reveals. According to a paper released on 6 November, central government handles more than one billion separate transactions a year through 650 different services - many of which still cannot be handled digitally.
