Record numbers contact NSPCC

The number of people contacting the charity NSPCC with concerns about neglected children has doubled over the last two years, according to the organisation. A report published on u June revealed more than 12,100 people rang the NSPCC helpline between April 2011 and March 2012 with concerns that a child or children were possibly being neglected. The number of calls has more than doubled from 5,363 in 2009/10, and 71% of the contacts made last year were referred to the police or children's services. These referrals involved around 17,600 children.
