It has been six months since riots spread - with unprecedented speed - throughout towns and cities in England. Half-a-year on, we must not forget about the communities and victims who were seriously affected by the disorder. Over those five days in August, 66 local authority areas were affected by rioting. More than 5,000 crimes were recorded, five people died and, according to the Riots Communities and Victims Panel's own unique research, up to 15,000 people took to the streets to riot. Since then, The M] has continued to report local government's leading role in responding to the riots. The magazine has been at the heart of the debate on the riots - from demands for bringing back national service to the innovative use of social media by local authorities during the disorder.
