On Monday, the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations' (ACEVO) 'Commission on youth unemployment" event, chaired by ex Cabinet minister for communities and local government, David Miliband, released its final report. It starkly demonstrates the cost to the chancellor - not to mention society as a whole - of failing to act to tackle the startling rise in youth unemployment which has occurred since the onset of the recession. This is an issue of huge importance, not only for Britain, but also for other European economies and, indeed, for the West as a whole. The commission's report is the first piece of seriously-substantive research and analysis since the issue turned from a festering problem into a full-blown crisis.
