摘要

Councils work hard to ensure children, older and disabled people, those in care and many other groups have access to the services they rely on. This year's National Children and Adult Services Conference is the perfect opportunity to debate the issues with experts working with senior politicians from across the health and social care sector. Funding cuts have hit councils hard. By the end of this Parliament, funding to local government will have been cut by more than 40%. By delivering differently, councils have saved over £3.5bn from adult social care budgets whilst continuing to provide day-today services. This is a feat in itself - something we don't say often enough. Yet by 2019-20, councils will be facing a shortfall of £2.6bn for children's services and £4.3bn for adult services. Only sustainable solutions, fit for the 21 st century, will be up to the task.
