BT poised to take legal action against council

Cornwall Council is to face BT in the High Court over plans to end its controversial outsourcing contract with the communications giant. The local authority confirmed last week that a court hearing is now likely to take place in the first week of December, following a long-running row over the future of the agreement. Cornwall, along with the Peninsula Community Health and Cornwall Foundation Partnership Trust, signed a 10-year deal with BT in 2013 to provide support services. As The MJ reported in May, the strategic partnership was failing to meet key performance indicators and only created 35 new jobs since it was created - less than a third of its target for the first two years. In a statement, Cornwall said it told BT Cornwall of its intention to end the contract early during the summer and bring the services back in-house.
