Major councils need cash to prevent youth radicalisation

All major councils should receive Whitehall funding designed to prevent the radicalisation of local youngsters at risk of becoming terrorists, a council chief executive has warned. Writing exclusively for themj.co.uk, Martin Esom, chief executive of Waltham Forest LBC, claimed that following global incidents of terrorism, such as the Paris attack on Charlie Hebdo, the role of local authorities to counter radicalisation and combat terrorism had 'never been more important'. But Mr Esom, who chairs the London Prevent Board, formed to co-ordinate councils' response to terrorist threats in the capital, warned many authorities have neither the funding nor skills required to help combat extremism and terrorism.
