Like some of you reading this, I had the pleasure of attending the Local Government Association (LGA) conference in Bournemouth recently. There was a real buzz about the place this year, as our team went about its business of telling others about the commercial work we're doing, along with offering our consultancy services. The response we received was fantastic, with a number of authorities of a similar mind-set and keen to work with us. Just a few years ago, 'commercial' was a dirty word in the public sector. How things have changed: a lot of us in the public sector are in no doubt that the old model is broken - not just through central government cuts, but because it's out of sync with the modern world. We can't stand still, we have to do something; it's about our residents, our customers - not only sustaining those frontline services, but also changing service delivery and offering new services that will be valued. We believe that local authorities are in great shape to do just that.
