Counties hit back at districts choosing their own devo path

Two county councils have hit back after their attempts to broker devolution deals have been stymied by districts choosing an alternative path. The Solent combined authority was this week secured despite the leader of the Hampshire CC, Cllr Roy Perry, objecting to the idea. Separately, The MJ understands that Derbyshire CC is planning to launch a judicial review of Chesterfield BC's plans to defect from the North Midlands to join the Sheffield city region. A Chesterfield spokesman said it had received a letter from Derbyshire raising legal issues with its decision - but it stopped short of threatening legal action.
