Southend-on-Sea BC will dig deep into its own pockets to regenerate its landmark pier after no private investors came forward. Council leaderCllr Ron Woodley said the council would create its own company to redevelop the pier after talks with potential investors came to nothing. Cllr Woodley said the council planned to invest around £20m over the next five years. 'There was initial interest from investors, but they dropped out at the final hurdle so we decided the council will do it through Southend Pier Ltd, which will be a separate company, but will still be wholly-owned by the council,' said Cllr Woodley.
