Earning from learning

Bristol is proud to be recognised as the first UNESCO Learning City in England. This role has opened up opportunities to profile the city globally, most recently in China and Brussels and to make closer connections with its neighbours in Swansea, Glasgow, Limerick and Cork. Learning Cities are not new and are being developed all over the world to meet local and national priorities. Bristol embarked on its journey at a time of significant strain on its resources to tackle some of the challenges that perpetuate the inequalities in the city. The role has provided a vehicle to provide greater structure and cohesion in an increasingly fragmented landscape for education and skills.
