TOp marks for tackling truancy

Since the early 19905, Lancashire CC's pupil attendance support team (PAST) has been developing a unique programme of intervention and school support to get pupils off the truancy lists and back into the classroom. PAST proactively targets pupils with attendance rates of 80-85%, using programmes which complement the work of mainstream education welfare officers. Our team concentrates on schools that will benefit from proactive intervention before absenteeism becomes an entrenched problem, and education welfare officers have to intervene.
