Reform of legislation outlining compensation packages for riot damage has stalled, London Assembly members heard this week. A senior official from the Home Office's finance team, Stephen Webb, told an assembly committee on 4 December a review of the much- criticised Riot (Damages) Act 1886, ordered following last year's riots, had been dogged by differences of opinion over future compensation between police forces and the insurance industry.
