Boroughs lead fight against domestic violence

Westminster City Council is planning to join its tri-borough partner, Hammersmith and Ful-ham LBC, in creating a domestic violence court, as part of a local campaign to tackle the issue. The council aims to confront all forms of domestic abuse - including physical, sexual and cultural oppression - under a 'whole family' approach, after finding that 50% of social worker case loads in the borough feature domestic violence. Cllr Nickie Aiken, cabinet member for children, young people and community protection, told The MJ domestic abuse was a core issue in 'problem families', and that a key emphasis of Westminster's strategy would be early intervention and education.
