Spending poverty gap denied by ministers

Ministers have rejected findings from two separate reports issued this week which suggest councils in areas of greater deprivation have fared worse than more affluent local authorities.Areas of deprivation in England and Scotland have experienced greater budget cutbacks, amounting to around £100 per head than more prosperous local authorities, an interim report issued by anti-poverty charity the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) today claims.
