Rotherham's Jay response blasted by Ofsted chief

Ofsted head Sir Michael Wilshaw this week heaped further criticism on scandal-hit Rotherham MBC, highlighting its 'slow' response to the Jay report.Sir Michael (pictured) alerted education secretary Nicky Morgan to emerging findings from Ofsted's ongoing inspections into the council.This prompted the minister to issue a direction to improve and to appoint Malcolm Newsam as children's social care commissioner to 'urgently investigate and address the failings identified and recommend immediate next steps'. The Ofsted chief told Ms Morgan he had 'concerns about serious weaknesses' in the leadership of social services, the effectiveness of social work practice and management oversight, and the local safeguarding children board.
