Voting watchdogs have come under pressure this week after it emerged there were 920,000 fewer entries on council-run electoral registers nationwide following the transition to Individual Electoral Registration (IER). Publication by the Electoral Commission of its long-awaited analysis of local authority registers - first issued last December - indicates a 2% reduction in numbers compared to those published in February and March 2014 before the IER switchover.
