Hunt for chief on hold at crisis-hit Rotherham

The hunt for the next chief executive of crisis-hit Rotherham MBC has been put on hold awaiting the appointment of commissioners following last week's damning report into its children's services. The council had begun the search for a chief executive to replace Martin Kimber who resigned last year while ex-Bristol City Council chief executive Jan Ormondroyd was appointed as Rotherham's interim chief until May. However, following Louise Casey's report last week, leader Paul Lakin resigned and the entire cabinet also announced it would go as soon as transitional arrangements are in place. Rotherham MBC is now preparing itself for central intervention led by five appointed commissioners, following last week's publication of the statutory inspection led by Ms Casey, head of the Department for Communities and Local Government's (DCLG's) troubled families unit. One of the commissioners is earmarked as acting managing director until a permanent replacement is found.
