The machine (1) has a plate (25) pivoting according to a vertical axis (X6) to support a barrel (26) by positioning a longitudinal axis (X7) co-axially to the vertical axis. A drive mechanism rotatively drives the plate according to the vertical axis. A hunt (24) is configured to exert a support on an upper part (31a) of a metal circle (31) inserted around the barrel. A hunt activation mechanism radially and vertically moves the hunt with respect to the barrel. A stop formed by another hunt (24') exerts support directly or indirectly on the barrel toward the bottom of the former hunt. The activation mechanism is formed by jack (12), gear motor and motors (16, 16'). An independent claim is also included for a method for hooping a barrel by a machine.
