The waste strategy proposed by the Government has come under fire from MPs amid concerns about the burden it could impose on local authorities. The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee's report praised Whitehall's ambitious targets for recycling but criticised its approach. It said more information should be provided by the Government on additional sources of funding for councils. The report highlighted that existing recycling infrastructure was 'inadequate' to meet targets and called on Government to pick up the cost of up to £20bn investment.
