I have found that a second hand rear subframe isn't quite as easy to refurbish to a good standard when compared to a second hand front subframe. We had the original rear one painted in black two-pack a few years ago. This was, in fact, the third attempt to find a finish that Karen and I were happy with and that didn't blister with rust and, thankfully, this professional paint job seems to have worked well. Some see powder-coating as an option for the rear subframe but I'm not a big fan as, if it chips, the powder coating holds water against the metal, causing more rust than a paint chip and it can't then be easily stripped back and touched up with paint. There are a lot of cavities in the box sections of a rear subframe too, so I'll be sure to get some Waxoyl in there before Subby hits the road.
