U.S. mills are consuming less Old Corrugated Containers (OCC), die to a slowing economy. U.S. mills consumed 1.410 million tons of OCC in October, a 3.4 percent drop over September's total of 1.459 million tons, according to data released by the American Forest & Paper Association. OCC exports are on the decline. U.S. exports of the material decreased 13.7 percent from 532,000 tons in Septe-ber to 459,000 tons in October. Many domestic mills appear to have a lot of material stockpiled in their inventories. Mill inventories of OCC increased to 418,000 tons in October, up over September's total of 382,000 tons,AF&PA reported. Containerboard inventories at mills are on an upswing. Mill inventories of containerboard rose to 379,000 tons in November from 323,000 tons in October, AF&PA reported.
