Oregon's Recycling Of Plastic Containers Rises

The widespread use of roll-out carts for curbside recycling has helped Oregon boost recycling of plastic bottles and other containers, according to a report by the state's Department of Environmental Quality on recycling rigid plastic containers. Oregon's annual report reported that the recycling rate for plastic bottles, jars, cups, tubs, pails, clamshells and other containers increased from 27.8 percent in 2006 to 30.1 percent in 2007. The rate dropped from 2003 to 2005, but began rising in 2006 as the numbers of the big roll carts grew.
