Market leader underlines commitment to milk price stability

Arla Foods has underlined its commitment to increase long-term stability in the UK raw milk market and will work even more closely with its dedicated milk producers, Arla Foods Milk Partnership (AFMP) -which supplies of some 70 per cent of the company's liquid milk requirements. This followed a "constructive" meeting last month with Farmers for Action leader David Handley and discussions with Richard MacDonald, director general of the NFL). "We explained to Mr Handley that our key relationship was with AFMP. We have worked with AFMP to grow that supply line very successfully. There has been significant recruitment over the last 12 months and by October 2005 it will supply over 70 per cent of Arla requirements, compared to around 50 per cent in April 2004," said Tim Smith, Arla Foods chief executive.
