Like most other food manufacturers, dairy companies find that energy procurement is one of their single biggest costs - and it is rising. Add to that the impact of carbon pricing schemes such as the Climate Change Levy and EU ETS and growing costs and restrictions associated with the disposal of industrial waste and the future could start to look decidedly bleak. But there is a technology which offers a means of reducing energy bills and waste disposal costs simultaneously and could just bring a smile back to faces in the dairy industry: anaerobic digestion.
