Act Now On Claims

Many products carry a claim such as 'low in fat', or 'calcium is good for your bones'. All such claims are now subject to a European Regulation, and a good understanding of this regulation will ensure not only that your product is legal but that you exploit the possibilities to the maximum. Claims can be made on the packaging but also in advertising, and can state, suggest or imply, using words or images that a food has particular characteristics. Regulation 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and Council now regulates these claims, which can be considered as falling into two main categories, nutrition claims or health claims.
