摘要

The Systeme de Combat Aerien du Futur (SCAF)/Future Combat Air System (FCAS) began its long gestation process in February with the signature of a €155 million contract (financed equally by France and Germany) that will cover 18 months of studies. French industry, the Direction Generate de I'Armement (DGA) and the armed forces have a clear understanding of the evolutionary path that will lead from the current RAFALE to the future SCAF.DGA and Dassault Aviation have concrete ideas of the capabilities FCAS will feature and are confident they possess all the necessary technical and industrial skills to develop them. French industry proudly shows off its capacities, coupled with supply and value chains capable of producing any innovative components. For those not yet available, the country is able to launch large-scale studies and research. From a French point of view, the starting point for FCAS is the RAFALE programme, the latest production batches and updates of which will serve as launchpads for the development of new technologies as well as new forms of combat. Both the DGA and Dassault believe that RAFALE still has enough growth margin to cater for the development of further cutting-edge capabilities. In 2025, the RAFALE F4 will be a comprehensive air system, completely different from today's aircraft, albeit encapsulated in the same airframe. On the one hand, this will lead to limitations: on the other, it will allow the Armee de I'Air (AdA) and Marine Nationale (MN) to gradually adapt to the fifth-generation (or 'generation five-and-a-half,' as some would have it) system, as well as to immediately deploy essential assets for future conflicts well before FCAS can enter service. The starting point is the current F3R version, which will be the standard for 152 aircraft, while the last 28 are planned to be delivered, starting in 2023, in the F4.1 standard. By 2025, the entire fleet will start being updated to the F4.2 final standard. In 2023, Dassault expects a further French order for 30-45 aircraft, with deliveries that could start from 2027, in the F4.2 version.
