The idea of controlling an automatic cannon, machine gun, automatic grenade launcher or other weapon from inside an armoured vehicle, thus without the gunner being forced to expose himself or to rely solely on more or less comprehensive shields, has been around for several years. However, it took a long time until workable solutions could be designed and produced that would remain within the weight, dimensions and cost limits that would make them acceptable by most armies. Once this was achieved, however, such solutions took the market literally by storm.
