Industry-military teams are meeting persistent, competing requirements for ever-more accurate air-to-ground missiles to reduce collateral damage and evade increasingly capable surface-to-air weapons - for starters. At the same time, the US and other nations are upgrading legacy air-to-air missiles as ever more capable 4th- and new 5th generation fighter aircraft are being added to air orders of battle for near- and actual competitors. Transcending both weapon sectors is the F-35's fielding in the US and other countries, creating new requirements and opportunities for this 5th generation fighter's weapons load.
