De functie en samenstelling van de Nederlandse krijgsmacht zijn in beweging: van landsverdediging naar het handhaven van de vrede elders, van aparte krijgsmachtdelen naar joint. Deze veranderingen stellen nieuwe eisen aan de geestelijke gezondheidszorg voor de betrokkenen. De staatssecretaris van Defensie, C. van der Knaap, vroeg professor Gersons om advies. De auteurs gaan in op de mogelijke gevolgen van uitzending. Zij vergelijken het huidige militaire en civiele systeem. In de slotbeschouwing gaan zij in op de toekomst van de geestelijke gezondheidszorg: één militair zorgsysteem.%The function and composure of the Dutch Armed Forces are in motion.
