'Cross Cultural Training': een nieuw model voor cultuurtrainingen

The Dutch armed forces are committed to the Dutch Approach, a term that among other things refers to the natural cultural sensitivity each citizen of the Netherlands allegedly posesses. As a result of this assumption, the Ministry of Defense has invested little in cultural training since the Cold War. The current training is sketchy and based primarily on the transfer of knowledge, with the aim of drawing attentionrnto the effects of behavior. Soldiers must learn how to behave towards the local population, while culture shocks among the military should be prevented. Current cultural training, however, does not achieve those goals. The author argues that a new training model, called Cross Cultural Training, could solve this problem. Based on four stages, the model provides practical objectives and learning methods.%De Nederlandse krijgsmacht houdt vast aan de zogeheten Dutch Approach. Deze term refereert aan een culturele sensitiviteit waarover iedere Nederlander zou beschikken. Hierdoor heeft Defensie sinds de Koude Oorlog weinig ge?nvesteerd in cultuurtrainingen. De huidige cultuurtraining is summier en heeft niet de gewenste effecten. Dit artikel presenteert een nieuw Cross-Cultural Training (CCT) model, een raamwerk met praktische doelstellingen en trainingsmethoden, dat wel de gewenste effecten genereert.
