As tensions between The People’s Republic ofChina and the United States are expected to continueto escalate over China’s claims to more territorialrights in the South China Sea, the Pentagon in poised to increasethe number and frequency of the US Navy’s Freedom of NavigationalOperations (FONOPS) and other exercises in the region.The operational pressures this action places on the Navy, and inparticular the Pacific Fleet, calls for the Navy to increase its readinessto the highest levels.
