MOAA should not support a flag amendment [Resolution No. 1, August 2008 ballot coverwrap]. Respect for our flag can be taught, instilled, and inspired. It can't be legislated. Further, individual veterans and our organizations tend to be the most flagrant violators of the U.S. Flag Code.... Rather than promoting a constitutional amendment, MOAA ought to take the lead in restoring respect for our national ensign by example. We as officers should take action to correct violations of the Flag Code but correct our own violations first.
