Howitzer Battalion mascot - would stand with a pipe between his teeth during roll call each morning.rnAnimals have accompanied ser-vicemembers to war for centuries, first as a logistical necessity and later as a diversion, companion, and source of pride. Animals were -and still are - a reminder of home and a sense of normalcy in the chaos of war.
