The father of the world's most famous ammunition spoke Italian as second language.rnGeorg Luger (1849-1923) spent his childhood in Italy, then returned with his family to Austria and studied at the Wiener Handelsakademie. From 1867 to the end of 1871 he served in the Army and left it with the rank of Lieutenant of the Reserve. Then he began his job as bank clerk in Vienna. The term Parabellum is derived from the Latin "Si vis pacem, para bellum" ("If you want peace, prepare for war"), but in this case the word Parabellum comes from the fact that the telegraphic address of the Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken was "Parabellum Str. Berlin".%Il papà della munizione più famosa al mondo parlava italiano come seconda lingua. Georg Luger (1849-1923) visse in Italia e dopo il ginnasio e la maturità tornò con la famiglia in Austria e studiò alla Wiener Handels-akademie. Il padre Bartholomaeus von Luger, importante chirurgo austriaco, si trasferì infatti per insegnare all'università di Padova subito dopo la nascita del figlio Georg. Dal 1867 alla fine del 1871 servì nell'Esercito e si congedò con il grado di Tenente della Riserva. Iniziò quindi il suo nuovo lavoro: impiegato di banca a Vienna. L'incontro decisivo per la sua vita avvenne nel 1870 con Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher che in seguito lo assunse come rappresentante per la Ludwig Loewe & Company-Berlin (futura DWM di Loewe) con l'incarico di esportare il fucile Mannlicher 118 nel mercato italiano. Qui gli venne data la possibilità di dedicarsi alla sua vera passione: lo sviluppo delle armi.
