摘要

The interdisciplinary nature of the War and Violence Network combines the fields of literary studies, history, and visual studies. The network also supports methodological diversity that includes theories of warfare, historiography of war, poetic and narrative theory, and political philosophy. This year the network supported four panels within the framework of »War, the Body, and Communities«, as war experiences and legacies can affect individual bodies and broader communities. War can traumatize bodies as it simultaneously destroys and builds communities. Since war contributes to different narratives about the body in relation to conflict and violence, the War and Violence Network panel series explored such themes as the visual representation of war trauma on bodies and in communities, changing norms in military communities, and the bodily practices of war in history, literature, and visual media. In sum, the papers of this series explored how war can build and undermine »war communities« and how aesthetic and historical works about war and body can influence new aesthetics and shape a sense of community.
