The African military market will continue to be dominated by a few key states over the coming years, the majority of which are large energy exporters. Though the collapse in energy prices has hurt the purchasing power of many African countries, local states are finding ways to adapt to the economic environment without sacrificing too much in terms of procurement. Notably, as foreign products have become more expensive due to depreciation in local currencies, emphasis on local defense industry solutions has grown. While African military industries are, on the whole, still developing, countries are finding ways to leverage their industries to suit their specific needs.
