The Digitization of the Charlotte Perkins Gilman Papers at Schlesinger Library

Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935) was a popular and influential public figure who worked tirelessly for women's equality inside and outside the home, and wrote about the social changes she thought nec- essary to achieve gender equity (see fig. 1). The intellectual leader of the women's movement from the 1890s to the 1920s, she was a fiery lecturer, a poet and novelist, a newspaper and magazine editor, and a sophisticated sociological theorist.
