The Collections Access Project: Digitization from the Ground Up at Historic New England

Historic New England's Collections Access Project functioned as a laboratory that allowed us to experiment with a variety of procedures for digitization and museum object photography, and also to consider the pluses and minuses of outsourcing versus in-house photography. While a large amount of imaging work was outsourced, the organization was also able to leverage project funding to acquire equipment and develop in-house expertise that has allowed it to continue large-scale digitization efforts beyond the boundaries of the original grant period.
