Essentially, this paper will ask: can a society achieve scientific advancement without a technical vocabulary to describe new scientific concepts? To answer this question, the paper will explore the problems of technical vocabulary encountered by Medieval scientific translators, as well as the larger societal problems created by the incorporation of foreign technical vocabulary within Medieval societies. Further, the paper will explore the relationship between culture and language, and how this relationship has affected scientific advancement in both the Medieval and Modern periods.
