摘要

Phosphating, the most widely used metal pretreatment process for the surface treatment and finishing of ferrous and nonferrous metals, though it dates back to ancient Egyptian times, has experienced numerous modifications. A review of the literature clearly reveals that most of these modifications have concerned the development of formulations that would yield coatings to suit different end uses; however, the improvements made to overcome the problems associated with the operation of phosphating baths have been scarce and the majority of the problems still demand a critical solution. One of the prominent operational problems faced in the phosphating industry is that of overheating, which forms the subject of this article.
