OSCILLATING ABRASION TESTER

Paul N. Gardner Co. offers the Model 6160, which is based on the oscillating sand tester. The instrument, which replaces Model 6100, is used to measure the relative resistance or susceptibility of a material to surface abrasion and scratching caused by an oscillating abrasive media. The specimens are mounted in a holder located in the bottom of a tray, which is filled to a uniform depth with a standardized abrasive media. The tray reciprocates in a back-and-forth motion, which causes the entire mass of the abrasive media to shift. With the optional Bayer Test Kit, the Model 6160 can determine the abrasion resistance of ophthalmic lenses. Applications of the Bayer Test include transparent materials and coatings.
